What L-Arginine AKG is
Alpha-ketoglutarate is not an exotic import. Your cells make it constantly as a step in the citric acid cycle, the chain of reactions that turns food into usable energy. It also sits at the junction where amino acids are built and broken down.
Bind two molecules of arginine to one of alpha-ketoglutarate and you get arginine alpha-ketoglutarate, usually written AAKG. It is a salt: a stable, easily handled powder that dissolves well, which is the practical reason manufacturers like it.
The claim usually made for it is better absorption than plain arginine. That claim has been tested in sports science with mixed results, and it is fair to say it is not settled. What is certain is that a 2:1 extract at 200 mg delivers more arginine into the capsule on top of the 200 mg already declared as base arginine.
